Eden Alternative International
Since the Eden Alternative was founded in 1991 it has grown rapidly from a predominantly North American organisation to an International Organisation with representation and implementations in around twenty different countries.
Eden Alternative UK works closely with its colleagues in other countries to share ideas and best practice, wherever they originate.
USA
The Eden Alternative is an international not-for-profit organisation dedicated to transforming care environments into habitats for human beings that promote quality of life for all concerned. The home office for the Eden Alternative is located in the USA and provides resources and support for Regional Coordinators, Eden educators and mentors. The home office also coordinates the bi-annual International Eden Conference. Web Site.
Australia and New Zealand
Eden in Oz & NZ Ltd (EiON) is a not-for-profit organisation operating in Australia and New Zealand dedicated to transforming care environments into habitats for human beings that promote quality of life for all involved. EiON was established by a group of visionary individuals in Australia who heard Dr William Thomas speak at a conference in Hawaii. Since 2000, EiON has worked to promote the Eden Alternative through the provision of a range of training products and services. The main activity has been establishing a network of Eden Associates throughout Australia and New Zealand. In 2005 the Eden Associate course was Nationally accredited through Aged and Community Care Victoria. Web Site.
Canada
Eden in Canada began in 1996 in the Eastern Provinces of the country. It rapidly became clear that it could not be managed from one site and in 1999 it was divided into two regions, Central and Atlantic Region and Western Canada Region.
The Regional Coordinator for Central and Atlantic Region is Kathleen Burnett who provides training, development and support for her region. Web Site
The Regional Coordinators for the Western Canada Region are Cheryl George and Suellen Beatty. They provide a wide range of training and consultancy services for their region from the Sherbrooke Community Centre in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Web Site.
Denmark and Scandinavia
Eden Denmark was established in 2008 as a small non-profit organisation working to improve conditions for residents and employees in Danish nursing homes. Eden Denmark works closely with other Eden organisations in Europe and the USA in promoting and evaluating the philosophy. Denmark has two Regional Coordinators, Aase Porsmose and Karin Dahl who provide training and guidance to organisations and homes in Denmark.
Eden in Denmark is also supporting the development of the Eden Alternative in other Scandinavian countries such as Norway, Sweden and the Faeroe Islands. Web Site
Germany, Austria, Switzerland
The Eden Alternative is in the early stages of introduction into these countries, which had been managed as a group of German speaking countries but now have individual Regional Coordinators.

Iceland
Eden Alternative in Iceland has been established for several years and in 2012 hosted the European Eden conference where Dr William Thomas was the keynote speaker. The Regional Coordinator is Rannveig Guðnadóttir. Web Site.

The Netherlands is one of the most recent countries to establish an Eden Alternative office. The Regional Coordinator is Diana Melis. Web Site.
South Africa
The Eden Alternative was brought to South Africa in 2011 with the first Eden Associate courses being held in November of that year. The Regional Coordinator, Rayne Stroebel, was appointed and since then training programmes have been held across the country and several organisations are working to implement the Eden philosophy in their homes.
